Project Managing My Project Management.

A bit of a mini-blog, as things have been a bit hectic here.

It's the usual mix of family and work. Both kids had bugs for a bit, but thankfully are back on track.

And on the Stay Bright front, the number of discussions I'm having about mentoring is going up, which is great. I've also been helping cover some social media accounts for organisations while their staff are focusing on other things/new staff are employed and bedded in.

I prefer to be busy. I'd much rather be on the go than twiddling my fingers.

So the fact that things are picking up again after having time off following Harper's arrival is great. I feel energised and exhausted at the same time, a nice feeling. Equally I know I've got a lot more that I want to put together for Stay Bright Mentoring, so I need to dig out some time for that.

Time To Stop And Breathe

When I'm busy like this, with different fingers in different pies, I find every so often I need to stop, breathe, and ground myself on where everything is. I find it helps with my project management, and keeps me focused.

During the period where I had my office I did it on a massive whiteboard. I could scribble to my heart's content.

These days, said whiteboard is stored behind a drawer unit, as we have nowhere near the required room to put it up. I have a small square one stuck next to my desk, but it's really doesn't work for when I need to look at everything as a whole.

My current alternative therefore is A4 and small Post-Its. Each sheet has an area attributed, and the notes can be taken off and updated or moved if necessary.

It's hardly the most modern or dynamic of systems, but it works for me.

The purpose of this blog is simple though - do you have any tools or techniques that you use that work better?

All suggestions greatly welcomed (although preferably free or low cost options - sadly big expensive subscriptions aren't an option)!
